mark sink purchases a new studio building in derby
derby is a quaint area, adjacent to the concept colorado property. prominent denver photographer and director of the biennial month of photography, mark sink, provides the following information about his new structure, which along with concept, will help create an artists' community "anchor" on the north edge of denver:
"for the past couple months i have been cleaning out an abandonedderelict building in the business center of derby. the city and neighbors and businesses are thrilled i have arrived. i have been enjoying getting to know the township and all the personalities directly around me. it's a tight knit community who watches out for each other. it's very clean and pedestrian friendly. everyone waves hello to you. it's very small town "andy of mayberry" like. margrett, my eighty-five year old next door neighbor and i are planting a new garden in the open space behind the building.
"for the next year or more i will be personally getting the building
switched on and presentable for public visits. i am interviewing and picking a general contractor to work side by side with to get things approved. i am now researching local companies that will be doing heating cooling, electrical, fabrication, carpentry, and storefront windows. all of the utilities have not been turned on for decades. we just put a new gas line in. i will be doing a lot of the work above myself.
"future plans are to use the space as artist studios and art exhibition space. i don't expect it to be a gallery destination for many years. for now, it's affordable studio work space."
congrats, mark sink and welcome to the neighborhood!
