Derby Art District News and Events
ART IN DERBY ART FAIR AND GRAND OPENING FOR MAGNOLIA STREET ART SPACE
On October 6, 2018, the Art District celebrated Art in the Derby, an art fair to celebrate the newly created district and the Grand Opening of the Magnolia Street Art Space. There were many things to see and do that wwere creative, unique and fun for people of all ages! Some of the events included:
- ribbon cutting by city officials
- creative center for children (kids created art projects to take home)
- 52' semi trailer/gallery (for viewing of new media video presentations by several local film makers)
- Adams City Fire Truck and safety information
- Historical Society exhibit about the history of the Derby area
- food trucks
- DJ music by Abe Ramirez
- various outdoor artist exhibitors
- indoor art on display by MAG street studios artists and others
- student art on display by Adams City High School artists
- the first open studio and free/bargain art book sale by Derby Studio Project
- Grand Opening party
- cash awards for participating artists, including a "peoples' choice" award
Artists and entities who will displayed their work in the Magnolia Street Art Space building include: Bowerhouse Books, Colophone Center, Margaret McCullough, Joyce Coco, Carol Goldberg, Julie Anna Lewis, Ron Trujillo, Terrell Tumlinson, Jane Dodge, Jayn Thompson, Mark Friday, and Terri Bell. Activity Center artists included: Thomas Carr, Kristin Henning, Angela Rameriz, Naomi Gagnon, Nicole Korbe, Aaron Comino and Gary Reed. Participating artists from Adams City High School included: Damien Crellar, Bruno Martinez, Noelani Schimpf, Bryan Rodriguez, Henry Sabas-Martinez, Estefany Gueuara, Jonathon Esparza, Lisaira De Luna, Leilannie Ortega
GRAND OPENING POSTPONEMENT! Due to unforeseen construction delays, the Magnolia Street Art space Grand Opening will need to be postponed. As soon as we have rescheduled the event, we will post information here.

"Pop-Up Exhibit - "Emerge"

Please join us at 6:00 p.m. on January 12, 2018 for the Grand Opening of the new Magnolia Street Art Space! The space is finished, artists are getting settled in and a pop-up exhibit, entitled "Emerge," representing diverse work from more than 20 artists will be part of the celebration. There will also be food, music and fun! Don't miss this great opportunity to view some fantastic art and to take a look at this beautiful new art space.
The pop-up exhibit that will be a part of the Grand Opening celebration is being curated by former Ice Cube Gallery members Karen Roehl and Ron Gerbrandt. It will display a diverse collection of art by over 20 local artists including: Kevin Weckbach, Richard Rodriguez, Elizabeth Rouland, Larry Pritchard, Kate Woestemeyer, Tiffiny Wine, Dustin Hardgrove, Vanessa Garcia, Clyde Steadman, Michael Gadlin, Stephanie Hartshorn, Karen Roehl Ron Gerbrandt, Susie Hyer, Ann Gargotto, Andrea Kemp, Terri Bell, Jon Koenigsberg, Julie Anna Lewis, Terrell Tumlinson and Josh Frye.
Open House at Magnolia Street Art Space
Please join us at 11:00 a.m. on October 17, 2017 for an Open House at the new Magnolia Street Art Space. The space is currently under fast track renovation and although it won't be 100% ready for occupancy the day of the Open House, it will be ready enough for all to see the vision for the completed space!
This will be the first of many public events at the Magnolia Street Art Space and will be a great opportunity to check out the neighborhood which comprises the newly created Derby Art District.
